Why does the UK Labour MP Jess Philips seem to be such a divisive figure?

Of course none of this matters to those who are so morally bankrupt that they think that the rape of children is a great way to make political capital. These people are beyond contempt. I'm ashamed to say my local MP is one of them.

Two years ago an independent enquiry into child sexual abuse that cost millions, took seven years and considered the findings of 25 reports, including some on grooming gangs, published its report. The report was wide ranging but made the point that there had been several grooming gangs and the problem was ongoing. It was published on the day that Liz Truss resigned. There were 20 recommendations. The Conservatives implemented none, although some progress was being made but halted by the election.

So Jess Phillips, the MP who's probably done more than anyone in the house to battle abuse and exploitation, has been caught in a shitstorm that had been deliberately created by amoral bastards. Rather than take action now by implementing the recommendations mostly ignored by the Tories, they want to allow kids to be exploited for a few more years. Apparently to teach Starmer a lesson.

Why are there posts saying the T in LGBT should be dropped? With what is happening in the US and beyond against the trans community cause for concern that if this is accepted could it be deemed acceptable to start on the LGB community again?

Nobody in their right mind would now commission another huge, lengthy, expensive enquiry. The chair of the independent enquiry, Professor Alexis Jay, is against one. Not only would it be a waste of money, duplicating work very recently done, but it would delay implementing Professor Jay’s recommendations.

She was one of the higher profile Labour MPs but in no way controversial. She found herself in the news at the last election because her constituency has a large Muslin community but she was standing for Labour who had recently not been as supportive of the people of Gaza as some would have liked. She faced political opposition and a very dirty campaign against her, leading her to need police protection.

She isn't, or at least she wasn't. She was a steady campaigner in opposition, specialising in campaigning against violence against women and children, as well as being a passionate advocate for her home city.
